…not just from within but in terms of what’s “expected” of them. We all have pre-conceived notions and have come across factoids about what constitutes an “Asian culture”, as if it’s possible to define such a disparate region as one body of culture/customs etc. A couple or articles highlight the underlying waves crashing against the shore of such unified visions – both from within, as in this article about the booming Chinese tourism abroad; and from outside looking “into” what’s truly not a single culture, as in this article about the traps embedded in the seemingly flattering perceptions of Asian-American as “overachievers” (H/T to Farnam Street blog, in which post there are great links to additional articles).

A bit off-topic, but very much worth the time – especially collectively.
