This video (embedded inside) and the superb initiative by Code.org rang many bells with me because I coded a bit of Basic when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. My sister used to code as well, and we would try to outdo each other in little Q&A-type programs. Having computers in our house since I could speak – and having the incentive to put them to better use than playing games (no Internet back in 1986 or so) – certainly helped me develop logic-related “skills” that were a big hand all throughout my life. If anything, I now regret having given up coding so soon. I quipped about a coding-related issue in a 2009 post.
To stay in the personal advice realm: watch this video today, not tomorrow (also embedded inside). It is the closest thing to a life or death choice you will make today (hopefully). As in the case above, I don’t “think” this is right, I know it is from personal experience – unlike my adventures with coding, however, this one will be the subject of another post, someday.
It’s time to decide. NOW.
